Palais Garnier is said to be the most famous opera house in the world. The beautiful and historic building was built by Charles Garnier. It took 15 years to build this masterpiece in 1861-1875. Palais Garnier is also known as Opéra Garnier, Opéra de Paris or simply Opéra. Originally it was called Salle des Capucines because of its location in Boulevard des Capucines but it was shortly renamed to Palais Garnier. The famous novel The Phantom of the Opera (Le Fantôme de l'Opéra)  is based on Palais Garnier. Visiting the magnificent Palais Garnier will be an unforgettable experience for opera lovers.
